On Being Imaginative, Original and Fresh

'The truth isn't the truth until people believe you... and they can't believe you if they don't know what you're saying... and they can't know what you're saying if they don't listen to you... and they won't listen to you if you're not interesting... and you won't be interesting unless you say things imaginatively, originally, freshly.' - William Bernbach, Advertising Guru

  1. So true!

I’m always amazed by how many people think it’s enough to just speak the truth – they don’t understand that if they can’t get it out there in a way people will listen to, it doesn’t matter.

Just like building a better mousetrap. It doesn’t matter how good it is, unless you can convince people that they need it.

Sorry but I disagree strongly. The truth is the truth, even if no one will believe you, and it does matter. There is a difference between “truth” which is a factual event, and the “truthiness” we create around it by interpreting or ignoring facts by using our individual filters.
For example, 50% of the people executed for murder in Illinois prior to the review project a few years ago were innocent. To them it may not make a difference but does that mean the matter is irrelevant? Or take the opposite case: is OJ Simpson NOT a murderer because he was cleared by the courts?
    Cheers,
