bubbl.us – Qwirky Idea Mapping Online
If idea mapping is a tool you like to use… visit bubbl.us – a web-based idea map tool.
You can rapidly build maps using the [tab] and [return] keys.
Free registration allows you to save maps, share with friends, and collaborate with others.
The Bad
- I’m disappointed at the lack of control the user gets in adjusting the layout. I don’t like when the shapes overlap the lines… makes it confusing to see what goes where.
The Good
- Very short learning curve. You can create a map in a few seconds.
- It’s a relatively new site and will probably get more features and more control as it becomes more popular.
My favorite idea mapping tool (while not web-based) is the Mac-based OmniGraffle from the Omni Group.

Hey Paul-
I agree that bubbl.us is a great tool for ad hoc mindmapping. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and have been pleased. I’ll check out your recommendation on OmniGraffe for bigger ticket items.
You should also check out mindmeister.com, which is currently in private beta. I think it does a solid job of replacing the white board for quick, spur of the moment, mindmapping. Not as colorful or ajaxy as bubbl.us, but still very good. Plus you can export to outline form for ingestion into other systems.
